Engaging Visitors
Using a combination of Focus Groups, Accompanied Visits and On-site Interviews we explored responses to IWM, its brand identity, objectives and approach to exhibition design. The Curatorial Policy Matrix, emerged as a result and has since been widely disseminated.
We have undertaken formative and summative evaluation of the Big Picture Shows, informing the development of the original concept and evaluating plans for an additional show. We have conducted summative evaluation of 'Your History', an online resource designed to give people increased access to IWM's collection.
Our spatial analysis project has helped the IWMN to better understand how visitors are using the building and what measures could be taken to increase dwell times and facilitate engagement.
In September 2006 we were commissioned to complete an evaluation of the special exhibitions gallery, to be completed in March 2007.
“the reason we appreciate working with Morris Hargreaves McIntyre is because they probe and challenge our thinking and then deliver innovative solutions”. Jim Forrester, Director, IWMN

Curatorial Policy Matrix
This model illustrates the change in the trends in museums and galleries, as policies, funding and the profession evolved. By analysing the ‘offer’ that an organisation is presenting to visitors the model outlines the different curatorial options in terms of objects and interpretation. It incorporates design choices for the building and the exhibition. This is mapped against what the visitors need helping to match visitor motivations with the product offer.
