Visual Arts in Scotland: Current Profile and Barriers to Attendance

Scottish Arts Council commissioned research to generate market intelligence and develop the skills held by their core funded visual arts organisations. We conducted a Population Survey across Scotland, completed a year-long In-venue Survey in the CFOs, ran Focus Groups and Mystery Visits and supplemented this primary data collection with Desk Research.

This market intelligence gave the SAC and CFOs a better understanding of who currently visits, the size of the potential market and their needs and motivations. With the help of the CPD sessions we facilitated and a sector wide conference, each organisation was given the support and skills they needed to use this intelligence to inform and develop marketing strategies. We also made strategic recommendations to Scottish Arts Council on the way forward for supporting and developing the visual arts sector.
