A significant independent research study based on Short Interviews and E:Surveys with 4,294 adult festival goers and with thirty-one festivals in Summer 2002.
The research proved that folk festivals are big business and support the local economy, generating spending of £82 million each year; attract tourists with money to spend, in the region of 315,000 tourism visits per year; develop new audiences; are family friendly; are accessible and welcoming and develop
people and communities.
The research and report have had a major impact on the funding of folk festivals.
